CHANDIGARH: The campuses of government as well as many private schools were abuzz with activity on the first day of school on Wednesday after an almost two-month summer vacation.
Smartly turned out in their uniforms the children were happy to be back to their second home. Meeting friends and enjoying the schooltime activities was their main aim. ���I was eagerly waiting for the school to reopen.
It seemed ages since I met my friends. Besides I also missed my games and English classes,������ said Manraj, a class II student of Ryan International School.
Even the scorching sun could not prove a damper for Kanav Nandra, another student who was glad holidays were finally over. ���I wanted to come back to school as I missed my teachers and friends. Besides sitting alone all day and watching TV bored me and I just wanted to get back to my school routine, he said.
Pranavi, a class VIII student of Carmel Convent, had mixed feelings on the first day after break. ���I was nervous as we were supposed to be get our terminal papers��� results, but eager to catch up with old friends ,������ she said.
However, according to a principal of the government school there was a slight dip in the number of students turning up on the first day as compared to last year. Many parents seemed to have got confused due to the extended holidays in Punjab schools. I received many calls on Tuesday from parents wanting to know if the school was reopening, she said. Upset over the administration���s decision to reopen schools in this intense heat, Preeti Walia, a parent said, ���I had great difficulty in going to pick up my children from school in this sweltering heat. I wish the holidays had been extended for a few more days like in Punjab,������ she said.
